This is the second draft of work towards a linear bearing and rail system containing only one non-printed part, the rolling elements (6mm airsoft BBs). Why airsoft BBs? They're cheap, they're round, they're biodegradable, and they're easy to get. The system is currently at the "workingish" stage of development. The original draft from a year ago proved to have some major problems when I finally was able to print it, so I threw a lot of stuff from it out and focused on getting...

A Printable linear bearing that uses 1.77mm or .177 buckshot as the bearings. Just print out both the cap and body, drop in your bearings, put in a few screws or add some glue, and BAM! I cannot and will not be held responsible for any damages of any sort.

Inspired by the above thing, I wanted to try a linear bearing made using airsoft balls. http://reprap.org/wiki/Printable_linear_bearing The linear-2.2 (same has 2.1 but closed) have a bit of friction (because the balls don't make a loop) but it works (25mm long x 23,41mm ext diam) Video : http://youtu.be/GTtfGQe4o7o

A simple tool to press bearings out of (and back into) mounts, housings, etc. I needed to replace one of the X-carriage mounts on my A8 to accommodate a replacement idler pulley that was wider than the original; this made quick work out of removing the LM8LUU bearing from the original mount. I had already pressed a replacement bearing into the replacement mount, but I suspect this would've also worked well to install the bearing. A few light taps with a small hammer on the plastic rod is all it...

This is a closed bearing block for a 1" round, unsupported rail. It is a variant of my open bearing block inspired by WWWektor's contribution. The closed version was created to minimize the springy nature of the open block under the greater pressure of aluminum cutting. I have not tested this bearing block yet. I will report the performance when I do. I will be re-working my open bearing block (for a fully supported 3/4" rail) and will upload that model when it is ready for testing....

I was working on a derivative of: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5830 when I realized I could make a printable linear bearing for it. This is that bearing. It provides three inner racetracks rolling against the inner axle. The length is adjustable to increase the number of ball bearings in contact with the inner axle. Longer length will be more stable therefore. To approximate the stability of the reprap based xy rider designs, you'd want at least two of these 35mm or greater in length on...

In the comments from MakerBlock's blog post on the MakerBot blog, tre3 had the idea of making a linear bearing from plastic. Since I really like how my ball bearings turned out using steel BBs, I thought I'd try designing a linear bearing using the same bearings. The first step was to get the basic BB function working. I designed a "racetrack" so the bearings could make a loop and only contact the bar in a straight line. My original idea was to have three racetracks arranged so that...

**Summary** I have been playing around with bearings designs lately and thought I would share this latest hybrid 8mm bearing. The video at the bottom demonstrates the finished product on a 8mm linear shaft. https://youtu.be/HjRh_Fa9G2I It makes use of commonly available PTFE tubing for the area which is in contact with the linear shaft, combined with a printable bearing housing. This has quite a few advantages; as it's light weight, PTFE has an extremely low friction coefficient and if the tube...

lm8uu 3d printed holder. Made this to consume the least amount of material ~ 7-8 grams and be tough at the same time. It also carries 4 holes for M4 hex cap screws, so other printer modules can be attached to it easily. There's also a "lip" around the exterior that prevents the linear bearing from sliding out. The internal diameter is about 1/15th of a mm tighter than the lm8uu, so the bearing has no movement while it's in there. There are 2 versions included: the basic one with no...

UPDATE: Fixed a few lines of code which made things wonky if you change the dimensions of the walls. Inspired by Nophead, I wanted to implement his ideas for Mendel90 into a printer design. I made an OpenSCAD script to generate the mount for his linear bearings. Hope it comes in handy to someone. Check out NopHead's blog. Its the best! http://www.hydraraptor.blogspot.com/ My design could be significantly optimized, but it does work.

Size changeable linear bearing done in freecad. Inner and outer radius. 6 holes change the radius accordingly. Don't have a clue on how todo full parameterisation, but as I get better of course quality of Freecad file will get better. Found that in PLA their is usually about 0.2mm shrinkage in overall diameter. So this needs to be accounted for. Found that once shrinkage is accounted for, a typical freeplay of about 0.05mm in the radius is possible. Some teasing of the part to get it onto the...

Thanks to inks007 for this well made design. I did have some issues with the design: When I installed the y-axis on my new MK3s I noticed that it rubbed against the frame. Picture of it is attached. After learning how OpenSCAD works, I figured out how to adjust the design accordingly. Now the remixed version won't rub against the frame anymore. Everyone should just need to adjust this one parameter: bearing_od_loosen -> adjust it according to the bearing, printer settings and filament...

Another SC8 bearing holder with snap-in place for M3 hex nut. In order to mount below a printer 3.6mm bed, you would need 4x 22mm M3 hex skrews. I provide 2 model with different printing orientation and adjusted bearing size hole to account for FDM printing characteristics: - Side: hole size 15.35mm (this should give the strongest print) - Vertical: hole size 15.1mm (alternative in case of issue with the above)

Use the original for printing and assembly instructions. This has only a few minor experimental changes. The washers are all replaced with shoulders on the models, and a flex area is used instead of springs. This reduces tolerance though, so they need to fit almost perfect, and probably won't without some tweaking. They're quieter than linear bearings or even the IGUS bushings with the right bearings, and horrible with cheap ones. N.b. As per discussion, the rods are bent due to the holdowns,...
